Shoreham Harbour lies on the south coast of England, and is characterised by a continuous strip of coastal communities stretching from the western edge of the City of Brighton & Hove in the east to the town of Shoreham-by-Sea in the west. The regeneration area includes parts of several other adjoining communities, including Southwick, Fishersgate, and Portslade. It includes housing, employment, and shopping areas, as well as Shoreham Port. With its waterfront location at the mouth of the River Adur, active port, mix of business and leisure activities and homes, Shoreham Harbour is an area with an interesting and varied character and heritage.
Shoreham Port itself stretches from the lower reaches of the River Adur in Shoreham-By-Sea through to the eastern canal arm which is a 2.5km long impounded dock running from Southwick to Portslade. The Harbour area straddles the local authority boundaries of Adur District Council and West Sussex County Council in the west, with a smaller section to the east falling within the jurisdiction of Brighton and Hove City Council.
The precise boundary of the Shoreham Harbour regeneration area is still to be determined, but the core of the area encompasses the working Port of Shoreham, parts of the surrounding urban areas of Shoreham-by-Sea, Southwick, Fishersgate (in Adur District Council / West Sussex County Council) and Portslade (Brighton and Hove City Council).
